미 국방부 “북중러 생화학무기 개발 협력 가능성 ~예의주시~” – KS News

미국 국방부가 중국, 러시아의 생화학 무기 개발과 관련해 북한의 협력 가능성도 예의주시하고 있다고 밝혔습니다. 생화학 무기 확산을 막기 위해 제재 등 비군사적 역량을 활용할 수 있다는 점도 강조했습니다. 이조은 기자가 보도합니다.

패트릭 라이더 미 국방부 대변인은 10일 정례브리핑에서 북한이 중국, 러시아와 생화학 무기 개발에 협력할 가능성과 관련해 “그것은 우리가 계속 면밀히 주시할 것”이라고 밝혔습니다.

[녹취:라이더 대변인] “It’s something that we’re going to keep a close eye on. We’re going to continue to cut and sew closely with our allies in the region in terms of counter proliferation when it comes to things like chemical biological weapons. And, you know, there are a variety of tools at our disposal to address those. I’m not going to go into those today. but those can include non military capabilities for, for example, sanctions and things like that. So again, definitely something that is concerning and something that we’ll continue to keep a close eye on.”

이어 “우리는 생화학 무기와 같은 것들과 관련해 확산 대응 측면에서 역내 동맹국들과 긴밀히 협력해 나갈 것”이라며 “우리는 이 문제를 다룰 수 있는 다양한 도구들을 갖고 있다”고 말했습니다.

미국이 한국으로부터 포탄 10만 발 구매를 추진하고 있는 것으로 알려진 것과 관련해 미군 비축용인지 우크라이나 지원용인지 묻는 질문에는 “방위산업 기지에서 비정부 탄약을 구매하는 것에 대해 한국과 논의해 왔고, 이전에 공개적으로 얘기한 바 있다”고 라이더 대변인은 밝혔습니다.

[녹취:라이더 대변인] “So we have been in discussions and we’ve talked about this publicly before with Korea in terms of purchasing non government ammunition from the defense industrial base. Certainly South Korea maintains a very robust, very capable defense industry and so in discussions with the South Korean government in terms of purchasing ammunition to replenish US stocks.”

이어 “한국은 매우 견고하고 유능한 방위산업을 유지하고 있다”며 “미국의 재고를 보충하기 위한 탄약 구매 측면에서 한국 정부와 협의하고 있다”고 덧붙였습니다.

11~12일 열리는 미일 외교·국방 장관 회담과 관련해선 “넓게 말해 일본은 역내 가장 굳건한 동맹국 중 한 곳이며 미일 동맹은 지난 7년간 인도태평양 안보의 초석이었다”고 말했습니다.

[녹취:라이더 대변인] “ I would say that broadly speaking, Japan is one of our staunchest allies in the region and really that the US Japanese alliance is the cornerstone of Indo Pacific security over the last seven years, This is an opportunity for our two nations to have very substantive dialogue in terms of how we can modernize the alliance and ensure that we’re doing our part to ensure a free and open Indo Pacific and importantly, a stable and secure Indo Pacific.”

라이더 대변인은 그러면서 “이번 회담은 우리가 동맹을 현대화하고, 자유롭고 개방된 인도태평양, 중요하게는 안정적이고 안전한 인도태평양을 보장하기 위해 우리의 역할을 하고 있다는 점을 확실히한다는 측면에서 매우 실질적인 대화를 할 수 있는 기회”라고 밝혔습니다.
